The Iranian trademark authority decided to upgrade their registration process into an electronic application.
The new electronic system was launched on November 18, 2012. At present, all trademark registrations need to be filed electronically, but the supporting documents such as Power of Attorney need to submitted as hard copy. This change only effects the administrative process, the law and legal procedure remains unchanged in Iran. The disadvantage of this system for international level is, that there is no English version of the system. This electronic system includes the main process of trademark registration (examination, publication and registration) but excludes the other additional process such as opposition, renewal, or license recordation. The Iranian Trademark Office plans to move all process into an electronic system by next year, and make their office a paperless office.
