Zynga , which is a American Social games maker and the creator of Farmville and Cityville, is suing a French games developer for using the word ‘ville’ in the title of one of its games.Zynga is behind several games with the word ‘ville’ in the title. nevertheless, it does not own the trademark to the word in this context.
In spite of this the company has accused French games company Kobojo of trademark infringement regarding a game that they released on Facebook last year called ‘Pyramidville’ .
In their complaint Zynga stated: "Facebook users are likely to believe, erroneously, that PYRAMIDVILLE is a member of Zynga's 'VILLE Family of Games’.”
Mark Pincus who founded Zynga three years ago, has been trying to trademark the word ‘ville’ with the US Patent and Trademark and Trademark Office. However, according to reports, the process has been slow and without much progress.
A Zynga spokesman said in the complaint that it has "consistently promoted the 'VILLE Family of Games together as a family, identified by the distinctive 'VILLE suffix."
