Trademark Registration in Colombia
Overview of Trademark Protection in Colombia
The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC), under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism, oversees trademark registrations in Colombia, granting exclusive rights across the entire country with just one application. As a member of the Madrid Protocol, Colombia allows businesses to designate their trademark in an International Registration (IR) through the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), offering a simplified process for obtaining protection in multiple countries.
As one of the largest economies in South America, Colombia is an increasingly attractive market, and registering your trademark here ensures strong legal enforcement of your intellectual property. By protecting your trademark in Colombia, your business is well-positioned for future growth and potential expansion across the Andean region and broader Latin America.

Additionally, under relative grounds, the SIC will assess whether your mark is likely to deceive, cause confusion, or conflict with any identical or similar prior registrations.
